Removal and Installation
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then, ensure SIR/air bag system is disarmed.Fig. 12 Exploded View Of Steering Column:
2. Remove steering wheel and contact coil, Fig. 3.
3. Remove hole cover and knee bolster panel.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors for ignition switch, contact coil and combination switch.
5. Disconnect steering joint bolt and steering column bolts.
6. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect shift interlock cable from ignition switch assembly and clamp.
7. Remove steering column assembly.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque interlock cable screw to 19 inch lbs.
b. Torque steering column lower mounting nuts, then upper mounting nuts to 17 ft. lbs.
c. Torque steering shaft upper joint to 18 ft. lbs.
