Engine Removal
REMOVAL1. Release fuel pressure in fuel feed line.
2. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
3. Remove engine hood.
4. Drain oil.
5. Drain coolant.
6. Remove radiator, radiator fan shroud and cooling fan.
7. Disconnect accelerator cable and Automatic Transmission (A/T) throttle cable (for A/T vehicle) from throttle body.
8. Remove strut tower bar.
9. Remove air cleaner upper case and outlet hose.
10. Remove engine oil level gauge and A/T fluid level gauge guide (For A/T vehicle)
11. Disconnect following electric lead wires:
^ Injector wire
^ Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor coupler
^ Ignition coil wire
^ Throttle Position (TP) sensor coupler
^ Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor coupler
^ Idle Air Control (IAC) valve coupler
^ Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor wire
^ Ground wire from intake manifold
^ Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve coupler.
^ Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve coupler
^ Heated oxygen sensor wire
^ Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor coupler
^ Coolant temperature switch coupler
^ Generator wires
^ Start or wires
^ Oil pressure wire
^ Power Steering (PS) pump wire
^ Ground wire from starter
^ Wire harness clamps
12. Disconnect following hoses:
^ Fuel feed hose from fuel delivery pipe
^ Fuel return hose from fuel return pipe
^ Heater hoses from heater core
^ EVAP canister hose from canister pipe
^ Brake booster vacuum hose
^ MAP sensor hose from intake manifold
13. With hoses connected, detach power steering pump and A/C compressor from cylinder block.
14. Raise vehicle.
15. Remove front differential housing with differential from chassis.
16. Remove exhaust No.1 pipe.
17. Remove A/T fluid hose clamps from right side transmission stiffener. (for A/T vehicle)
18. Remove right side transmission stiffener.
19. Remove clutch housing lower plate.
20. Remove torque converter bolts. (for A/T vehicle).
21. Lower vehicle.
22. Remove starter motor.
23. Support transmission. For A/T vehicle, don't jack under A/T oil pan to support transmission.
24. Remove bolt and nuts fastening cylinder block and transmission.
25. Install lifting device.
26. Disconnect engine side mounting bracket nuts to engine mountings.
27. Before lifting engine, check to ensure all hoses, wires and cables are disconnected from engine.
28. Remove engine assembly from chassis and transmission by sliding toward front, and then, carefully hoist engine assembly.
