Throttle Body: Service and Repair

Removal
1) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2) Drain cooling system.





3) Remove throttle cover and disconnect accelerator cable and A/T kickdown cable (3 A/T model) or A/T throttle cable (4 A/T model) from throttle body.





4) Remove air intake pipe and hose.





5) Disconnect electric coupler from TP sensor.
6) Disconnect vacuum hose from throttle body.
7) Disconnect cooling water hoses from throttle body.
8) Remove throttle body from surge tank (intake manifold).





Cleaning
Clean passages by blowing compressed air.

NOTE:
- TP sensor, fast idle air valve or other components containing rubber must not be places in a solvent or cleaner bath. A chemical reaction will cause these parts to swell, harden or get distorted.
- Don't put drills or wires into passages for cleaning. It causes damages in passages.

Installation





1) Clean mating surfaces and install throttle body gasket to surge tank. (intake manifold.)
Use new gasket.





2) Install throttle body to surge tank and tighten bolts to specified torque.

Tightening Torque
(a): 23 Nm (2.3 lb-ft, 17.0 lb-ft)


3) Connect cooling water hoses and vacuum hose
4) Connect coupler to TP sensor securely.
5) Install air intake pipe and hose.





6) Connect accelerator cable and A/T kickdown cable (3 A/T model) or A/T throttle cable (4 A/T model), and adjust each cable play to specification.
7) Refill cooling system.
8) Connect negative cable at battery.
