Trailing Arm: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Hoist vehicle and remove rear wheel.





2. Disconnect parking brake cable hanger from trailing rod.





3. Support rear axle housing by using floor jack.





4. Remove trailing rod rear mount bolt.





5. Remove trailing rod front mount bolt.





6. Remove trailing rod bush by using oil hydraulic press and special tools (A, B. & C).

NOTE: When placing special tool (C) under trailing rod as shown, make sure that bush will not contact special tool when it is pushed out.

Special Tool:
(A): 09924-74510
(B): 09951-16030
(C): 09951-26010 or equivalents.

INSTALLATION





1. Press-fit trailing rod bush by using oil hydraulic press and special tools (A, B & C).

NOTE: When Press-fitting bush, use care so that distance between trailing rod end and bush end is the same at both ends.

Special Tool:
(A): 09924-74510
(B): 09951-16030
(C): 09951-26010 or equivalents.





2. See figure for distinction between right and left trailing rods.





3. Install trailing rod to vehicle body and axle housing, refer to figure for proper installing direction of bolts.

NOTE: Nuts should not be tightened.

4. Remove floor jack from rear axle housing.
5. Connect parking brake cable clamp to trailing rod.
6. Install wheel and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque.

Tightening torque for wheel nuts: 95 Nm (69 ft. lbs.)

7. Lower hoist and with vehicle in non loaded condition, tighten front and rear nuts of trailing rod to specified torque.

Tightening torque:
(A): 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
(B): 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
