SUBJECT: ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR POOR COLD START

MODEL(S): VITARA V6 (SQ625L), GRAND VITARA (SQ625W)

YEAR: 2003~2005

REVISION: A reprogramming process error may occur. Please see the added "NOTE 2:" in step 5 below.


CONDITION: In cold and / or high altitude conditions the engine will crank but will not immediately start and runs rough once started.

CAUSE: ECM Software Logic

CORRECTION: Engine start up can be improved by reprogramming the ECM. Follow the reprogramming procedure described below.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Reprogramming Procedure:
1. Log onto the SCAT system and access the Suzuki Pitstop.

2. Download and review the Suzuki Pass-Thru Reprogramming Tool Operator's Manual. This must be read and understood COMPLETELY before attempting to reprogram the ECM.

3. Following the procedure outlined in the Suzuki Pass-Thru Reprogramming Tool Operator's Manual, download and install the Pass-Thru Reprogramming Software "3_SOFTWARE.EXE" if it is not already installed.

4. Download and unzip Suzuki Pass-Thru Reprogramming Data Base "4_DATABASE1.EXE" onto your PC. Follow the procedure in Section 3.2 of the Operator's Manual to update the Database files. This step is only required to be done once to accommodate all vehicles covered under this TSB.

NOTE:
This Database "4_DATABASE1.EXE" has been updated with newer data for reprogramming without changing the file name. You are requested to download in order to update the database in your PC.

5. Following the procedures outlined in the Suzuki Pass-Thru Reprogramming Tool Operator's Manual, hook up the SDS Interface Tool P/N 09910-06520 to the vehicle and run the ECM reprogramming software. If the message "[4028] ECU already has the latest version" appears, click "OK" and "Finish" and then continue to step 6.

NOTE 1:
If you believe the code "[4028] ECU already has the latest version" is false, check that the Database has been properly installed. See step 4 and try reprogramming again. If after installing the Database properly code 4028 appears again, no further action is required.

NOTE 2:
If the error code "[4040] Error occurred while rewriting. The programming is aborted." appears click "OK" and then click "Finish" and use the following procedure.

A. Turn OFF the ignition.

B. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

C. Disconnect the ABS controller connector at the ABS control unit.

D. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

E. Start the reprogramming procedure again.

F. After reprogramming is complete, disconnect the negative battery cable.

G. Reconnect the ABS connector.

H. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

I. Continue to step 6.




6. Fill out the Reprogram Label P/N 99963-01501-224 (the part number and version will be displayed at the "The reprogramming is successful" screen). Then affix the label to the back of the glove box door as pictured.
