The 4WD control system is mainly controlled by the 4WD control module. When the 2WD/4WD control switch is turned on or off, the 4WD control module actuates the transfer shift control actuator so that the transfer position is changed to the 4WD or 2WD position. (When the switch is turned on, the transfer position is at the 4WD position. When the switch is turned off, the transfer position is at the 2WD position.) By recognizing the transfer position, the 4WD control module actuates the axle lock actuator motor on the front differential assembly so that the motor actuates the axle lock actuator in the front differential assembly. It causes the axle lock clutch and the free axle hub in the differential case assembly to be engaged resulting in the 4WD mode or disengaged resulting in the 2WD mode.
