Engine - Engine Compartment Thumping Noise

Section Title: Engine

TSB No.: TS 25 07028

Division: Automotive

Category: Technical

SUBJECT:
RANDOM KNOCK OR THUMPING NOISE FROM ENGINE AREA

MODEL(S):
XL7 (JC636)

YEAR:
2007-2008

CONDITION:

Torque changes can produce random knocking or thumping sounds heard inside the passenger compartment when the engine is started, accelerated, or driven on rough roads.

CAUSE:

The engine mount strut found at the front of the engine, or passenger side of the engine compartment, may have loose rivets. This can allow the strut to move in its mounting bracket. This produces a knocking/thumping noise, but will not create a failure of the strut.

CORRECTION:

Replace the engine mount strut with the part number listed below to eliminate the noise. Follow the service manual procedure.
