DTC P0711 Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Performance
DTC P0712 Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
DTC P0713 Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage
Diagnostic Fault Information
Always perform the [Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic Information] prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
Circuit/System Description
The transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor is installed directly in the transmission valve body (V/B). The TFT sensor input/output circuitry consists of an oil temperature sensor signal (OTG), and an oil temperature sensor signal (+) (OT). The sensor converts the transmission oil temperature inside the transmission into an electrical signal and transmits it to the TCM.
Conditions for Running the DTC
DTC P0711
^ There are no transmission range switch DTCs, P0706, P0707, or P0708.
^ The transmission is not in Emergency Mode.
^ The transmission oil temperature is less than 20°C at initialization.
^ The transmission oil temperature is between 0°C - 150°C.
^ The transmission range is D, L, or M.
^ The vehicle speed has been greater than 40 km/h at least once.
DTC P0712
The transmission is not in Emergency Mode.
DTC P0713
^ There is no engine coolant temperature DTC, P1258.
^ The transmission is not in Emergency Mode.
^ The engine coolant temperature is greater than 50°C.
^ The drive time is greater than 900 seconds (15 minutes).
Conditions for Setting the DTC
DTC P0711
The TCM detects that the transmission oil temperature has not changed at least 1.5°C for 10 minutes.
DTC P0712
The TCM detects that the transmission oil temperature is less than 1.5°C for 5 minutes.
DTC P0713
The TCM detects that the transmission oil temperature is greater than 150°C for 12 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
^ DTC P0711, DTC P0712, and DTC P0713 are Type A DTCs.
^ The TCM will disable DTC P1719.
^ The TCM will default the transmission oil temperature to 30°C for 15 minutes, then to 111°C.
^ The TCM inhibits self learning and all adaptive control for 15 minutes.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTC P0711, DTC P0712, and DTC P0713 are Type A DTC's

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool.
2. Record Freeze Frame and Failure Records.
3. Clear DTC's.
4. Operate the vehicle under the conditions observed in the Failure Records.
5. Observe the DTC information with the scan tool. Verify that DTC P0711, P0712, or P0713 does not set.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the 22-way automatic transmission (AT) wiring harness connector (C2) at the TCM.
2. Ignition ON, at the TCM, test for 4.8 - 5.2 volts between the TFT sensor high signal circuit terminal 14 and low signal circuit terminal 13.
> If not within the specified range, replace the TCM.
3. Verify the scan tool TCM, Trans. Fluid Temp. parameter is less than 11°C.
> If greater than the specified value, replace the TCM.
4. Install a 3-A fused jumper wire between the TFT sensor high signal circuit terminal 14 and low signal circuit terminal 13. Verify the scan tool TCM, Trans. Fluid Temp. parameter is greater than 109°C.
> If less than the specified value, replace the TCM.
5. Ignition OFF, on the AT harness, test for 200 - 8000 ohm of resistance between the TFT sensor high signal circuit terminal 14 and low signal circuit terminal 13.
> If not within the specified range, replace AT wiring harness.
> If all circuits test normal, test or replace the AT wiring harness.
Component Testing
Static Test
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the 22-way automatic transmission (AT) wiring harness connector (C2) at the TCM.
2. Disconnect the automatic transmission (AT) wiring harness connectors at the valve body (V/B).
3. Place the TFT sensor in water with a temperature of 10°C. Test for 5.80 - 7.09 K ohms of resistance between the TFT sensor high signal circuit terminal 14 and low signal circuit terminal 13.
> If not within the specified range, replace the AT wiring harness.
4. Place the TFT sensor in water with a temperature of 110°C. Test for 0.231 - 0.263 K ohms of resistance between the TFT sensor high signal circuit terminal 14 and low signal circuit terminal 13.
> If not within the specified range, replace the AT wiring harness.
