Drivetrain - Fluid Leaks From Transfer Case

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK FROM TRANSFER CASE

2007~2008

AFFECTED VIN(S):
UP TO VIN 2S3DA517986115983 (MFG DATE: 12/21/2007)

CONDITION:
Transmission fluid is leaking from transfer case weep hole, after vehicle sits overnight in temperatures below 15°F.

CAUSE:
The transfer case intermediate shaft seal is leaking.

CORRECTION:
Raise vehicle on a suitable lift to inspect the transfer case weep hole for signs of transmission fluid leakage. (See picture below). If leakage is found replace the intermediate shaft seal with the updated part listed below. Follow the online or published service manual procedure under "Transfer Case Replacement", "Transfer Case Disassemble" "Front Drive Axle Seal Replacement", and "Transfer Case Assemble".

If no leakage is found at the weep hole, this bulletin does not apply to the repair.

It is important to use the seal installer and seal protector tools required in the service manual to properly complete the repair. Please view "Seal Installation Tips:" attached.

1. Install the new seal to the installer tool as
shown.





2. Place the seal and installer over the input
shaft.





3. Drive the seal straight into the input shaft until the seal installer makes contact with the edge of the input shaft.
