NOTE:
"Durabed Surface Finisher" is a special process intended for use on Suzuki vehicles which come from the factory with a spray in bedliner (PPG Industries, Inc. Durabed coating). The Durabed Surface Finishing kit is designed to restore a like new appearance to a Durabed surface which has become discolored.
^ The following Durabed surface finishing procedures offer a simple step by step approach to the reconditioning process. When done correctly, the PPG Durabed coating will have a similar look and texture as the original finish.
^ The entire bedliner must be refinished using this process.
^ For best results the following procedures must be followed in the order given and only the specified Durabed Surface Finishing materials should be used.
Vehicle Preparation
1. Remove the following items from the vehicle:
^ Utili-track(TM) rails and covers*
^ Tie Down Hooks
^ Rubber plugs
^ Rubber Tailgate Stops** and Tailgate (if applicable).
* It may be necessary to heat up the Utili-track(TM) bolts with a pen torch (or suitable equivalent heating tool) to help remove the T-40 bolts. Be careful NOT to damage the Durabed material
when heating the bolts.
** You'll have to remove the rear Combination Lamps to remove the Rubber Tailgate Stops.
NOTE:
You do not need to remove the Plastic Bedrail Caps or the 12V Power Outlet in the bed.
2. Using soap and water, thoroughly wash the entire bed of the vehicle. This includes the durabed coated area you'll be refinishing and also the vehicle outside painted surfaces. Then rinse it off with a high-pressure water rinse.
3. Using clean, dry compressed shop air, thoroughly dry the entire bed surfaces. The bedliner surface must be dry and clean of all dirt and debris before starting the process.
Bedliner Preparation
Step 1: Cleaning:
^ Using a DBLR2 Lint Free Rag and the DBLW1 Cleaner, start in a front corner of the bed and apply a full wet coat of cleaner on a small area of the bed.
^ Using the same rag (DBLR2 Lint Free Rag), wipe the area until it is thoroughly clean all "whitening" from the bedliner should be gone. The bed should be black.
^ Continue this process on the whole bed. Every part of the bedliner (walls and floor), must be wiped cleaned.
^ Allow the entire bed to "flash" for 30 minutes at 70°F - 100°F before going to Step 1 under "Bedliner Surface Finishing".
NOTE:
If any whitening returns, repeat step 1 under "Cleaning".
Step 2: Masking:
^ Using 3M(TM) Automotive Refinishing Masking Tape (or equivalent), mask off the 12V Power outlet. Then, mask off around the area to be refinished.
^ Follow with 12-24 inches of 3M(TM) Gold Refinishing Masking Paper (or equivalent) around the same area being refinished.
^ Cover the rest of the vehicle with 3M(TM) Automotive Masking Film (or equivalent).
Bedliner Surface Finishing:
Step 1: Apply Pretreatment (DBLT3):
^ DBLT3 is ready to apply - no other reduction or hardeners are required.
^ Apply DBLT3 Pretreatment using a SATA gravity feed spray gun with a 1.3-1.5 mm fluid tip or equivalent.
^ Apply 1 full wet coat of pretreatment over the complete bed. Allow entire bed to flash (dry) for 30 minutes at 70°F - 100°F before going to the next step.
Step 2: Apply Durabed Surface Finisher (DBLF4A):
^ Mix DBLF4A Surface Finisher as follows:
^ 4 parts DBLF4A Surface Finisher
^ 1 part DBLH4B Hardener for Surface Finisher
NOTE:
Pot life is 3-4 hours @ 70°F.
^ Using a SATA gravity feed spray gun with a 1.3-1.5 mm Fluid tip or equivalent, apply 1 medium wet coat of DBLF4A Surface Finisher over the complete bed. Target thickness is 1 coat @ 1.5-1.8 mils dry film.
^ When complete, allow the DBLF4A Surface Finisher to flash 5-10 minutes. Bake for 30-35 minutes at 140°F. Allow to cool and de-mask.
Vehicle Reassembly:
1. After removing the masking, allow 1 hour before reassembly.
2. Reinstall the following items to the vehicle:
^ Utili-track(TM) rails and covers (Torque T-40 bolts to 28.5 Nm, (2.9 kg-m, 21 ft-lb).
