Engine Oil: Service and Repair

Engine Oil and Filter Change

WARNING:
^ New and used engine oil can be hazardous.
Be sure to read "WARNING" in General Precautions and observe what is written there.
^ Steps 1) - 7) below must be performed with ENGINE NOT RUNNING. For Step 8), be sure to have adequate ventilation while engine is running.

Before draining engine oil, check engine for oil leakage.
If any sign of leakage is found, make sure to correct defective part before proceeding to the following procedure.

1) Remove engine rear under cover.
2) Drain engine oil by removing drain plug.
3) Reinstall new drain plug with new gasket and tighten it to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Engine oil drain plug (a): 35 Nm (3.6 kg-m, 26.0 ft. lbs.)

4) Loosen oil filter (1) using oil filter wrench (special tool).
Special Tool
(A): 09915-46520

NOTE:
Before fitting new oil filter, be sure to apply engine to oil its O-ring.

5) Install oil filter (1) using oil filter wrench (special tool).
Special Tool
(A): 09915-46520
Tightening torque
Oil filter (b): 30 Nm (3.1 kg-m, 22.5 ft. lbs.)

6) Replenish oil until oil level is brought to FULL level mark (hole) on oil level gauge (oil pan and oil filter capacity). The filter inlet is at the top of cylinder head cover.
Use only engine oil with American Petroleum Institute (API) Certified For Gasoline Engine "Starburst" symbol.
It is highly recommended to use SAE 5W-30 oil.

NOTE:
Engine oil capacity is specified as follows.
However, note that the amount of oil required when actually changing oil may somewhat differ from the data depending on various conditions (temperature, viscosity, etc.).

Engine oil specification (N32A)
Oil pan capacity: About 5.5 liters (11.62 / 9.68 US / Imp pt.)
Oil filter capacity: About 0.5 liter (1.06 / 0.88 US / Imp pt.)
Others: About 0.2 liter (0.42 / 0.35 US / Imp pt.)
Total: About 6.2 liters (13.10 / 10.91 US / Imp pt.)

7) Check oil filter and drain plug for oil leakage.
8) Start engine and run it for 3 minutes. Stop it and wait another 5 minutes before checking oil level. If necessary, add oil up to FULL level mark (hole) (1) on oil level gauge.
