Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Fuel Pump Assembly Removal and Installation

WARNING: When performing the following procedure, be sure to observe Precautions on Fuel System Service in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury.

CAUTION: Never disassemble fuel pump assembly except fuel level sensor. Disassembly will spoil its original performance. If faulty condition is found, replace it with new one.

Removal

1. Remove fuel tank from vehicle.
2. Disconnect fuel pipe (1) from fuel pump assembly (2).
3. Disconnect fuel pump connector (3) from fuel pump.






4. Remove fuel suction pipe (1) from fuel pump.






5. Remove fuel pump assembly (1) and O-ring (2) from fuel tank.






Installation

CAUTION: When connecting joint, clean outside surface of pipe where joint is to be connected, push joint into pipe till joint lock clicks and check to ensure that pipes are connected securely, or fuel leak may occur.

1. Connect suction pipe (1) to fuel pump.






2. Put plate (1) on fuel pump assembly (3) by matching the protrusion of fuel pump assembly (2) to plate hole (4) as shown.






3. Clean mating surfaces of fuel pump assembly and fuel tank.
4. Install new O-ring (2) and fuel pump assembly (1) to fuel tank.

Tightening torque
Fuel pump nut (a): 11 N.m (1.1 kg-m, 8.5 lbf-ft)






5. Connect fuel pipe (1) and fuel pump connector (3) to fuel pump (2).






6. Install fuel tank.
