Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

Engine Control Module (ECM) Removal and Installation

CAUTION: As ECM consists of precision parts, be careful not to expose it to excessive shock.

NOTE: If ECM is replaced with either new one or used one, perform the following procedure.
- Register VIN data to ECM.
- For vehicle equipped with immobilizer control system, register immobilizer transponder code to ECM.
- Calibrate throttle valve position.

Removal
1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Turn lock lever (1) to arrow direction until it stops and then disconnect connectors from ECM.
3. Remove ECM and cover from bracket by removing their mounting bolts (2).







Installation
Reverse removal procedure noting the following.
- Connect connectors to ECM as follows.
a. Make sure that lock levers of ECM connector are in unlock positions.
b. Insert ECM connectors to ECM until it stops.







c. Lock ECM connectors securely by setting their lock levers in their locked position.
