DTC B1053 / B1057: Driver / Passenger Pretensioner Circuit Short to Ground

Refer to Driver / Passenger Pretensioner Circuit Resistance High DTC B1051 / B1055: Driver / Passenger Pretensioner Circuit Resistance High:Advanced Air Bag.
DTC Will be Set when
The voltage measured at driver or passenger seat belt pretensioner initiator circuit is below a specified value for specified time.
Flow Test Description
Step 2: Check if malfunction is in seat belt pretensioner.
Step 3: Check seat belt pretensioner initiator circuit.
DTC Troubleshooting
1.
Was "Air Bag Diagnostic System Check" performed?
YES -
Go to Step 2.
NO -
Go to Air Bag Diagnostic System Check Air Bag Diagnostic System Check:Advanced Air Bag.
2. With ignition switch OFF, remove center pillar lower trim of driver or passenger side and disconnect seat belt pretensioner connector "L12" or "L36" (1).
Check proper connection to seat belt pretensioner at terminals in "L12" or "L36" connector.
If OK, then connect special tools (A), (B) and (C) to "L12" or "L36" connector disconnected in Step 1).

Check SDM DTC.
With ignition switch ON, is DTC B1053 or B1057 still indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 3.
NO -
Ignition switch OFF. Replace seat belt pretensioner referring to Removal and Installation Front Seat Belt Removal and Installation.
3. With ignition switch OFF, disconnect special tools (A), (B) and (C) and SDM connector "L33".
Release shorting bar in SDM connector inserting release tool (1) included in special tool (A).
Measure resistance between "L33-5" and body ground, "L33-6" and body ground (for DTC B1053) or "L33-7" and body ground, "L33-8" and body ground (for DTC B1057).

Is resistance infinity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good SDM and recheck.
NO -
DTC B1053: "GRN/ORN" circuit or "GRN/YEL" circuit shorted to ground.
DTC B1057: "BLU/ORN" circuit or "BLU/YEL" circuit shorted to ground.
NOTE:
Upon completion of inspection and repair work, perform the following items.
- Reconnect all air bag system components and ensure all components are properly mounted.
- Clear DTCs, if any. DTC Clearance
- Repeat Air Bag Diagnostic System Check Air Bag Diagnostic System Check:Advanced Air Bag
to confirm that the trouble has been corrected.
