Rear Brake Disc and Pad Inspection

Rear Brake Disc and Pad Inspection

Rear Brake Pad Removal and Installation

Brake Pad

Check pad lining (1) for wear. When wear exceeds limit, replace with new one.

NOTE:

If the brake pad lining is polished with sandpaper, abrading particles will be embedded in the lining and will damage the brake disc.

Do not polish a rough pad lining with sandpaper. Replace the pad with a new one.

NOTE:

When pads are removed, visually inspect caliper for brake fluid leak. Correct leaky point, if any.

Rear brake pad thickness (lining thickness)
"a"
Standard: 8.5 mm (0.33 in.)
Limit: 1.5 mm (0.06 in.)

Brake Disc

Before this inspection, brake pads must be removed.

Check disc surface for scratches in wearing parts. Scratches on disc surface noticed at the time of specified inspection or replacement are normal and disc is not defective unless they are serious.

But when there are deep scratches or scratches all over disc surface, replace it. When only one side is scratched, polish and correct that side.

Rear brake disc thickness
"a"
Standard: 16 mm (0.63 in.)
Limit: 14 mm (0.55 in.)

Use wheel nuts (1) and suitable plain washers (2) to hold the disc securely against the hub, then mount a dial gauge as shown in figure and measure the runout at 20 mm (0.79 in.) from the outer edge of the disc.

NOTE:

Check rear wheel bearing (wheel hub) for looseness before measurement.

Rear brake disc deflection
Limit: 0.1 mm (0.004 in.) max

Special Tool
Dial gauge
(A): 09900-20607

Magnetic stand
(B): 09900-20701

Inspection brake disc inside for wear as shown in figure. If inside diameter is exceeds the limit or uneven or stepped wear is excessive, replace it with new one.

Rear brake disc inner diameter "a"
Standard: 200 mm (7.87 in.)
Limit: 201 mm (7.91 in.)

Slide Bolt

Check slide bolt (1) for smooth movement.

If it is found faulty, correct or replace. Apply grease (included with new pin boot) to side bolt outer surface.

Dust Boot

Check boot (2) for breakage, crack and damage. If defective, replace.
