Instrument Panel Removal and Installation

WARNING:

Failure to take proper precautions related to the air bag system when performing the procedures described below could cause personal injury due to accidental activation of the air bag system.

Refer to Air Bag Warning Air Bag Warning
, and make sure that you understand all instructions before starting the service work.


Removal

1) Turn ignition switch to ON position.
2) Select mode selector at "FOOT" position and turn OFF ignition switch.
3) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
4) Remove driver side instrument panel under cover (1) and passenger side instrument panel under cover (2).





5) Disable air bag system referring to Disabling Air Bag System Disabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag or Disabling Air Bag System Disabling Air Bag System:Except Advanced Air Bag.
6) Remove steering column hole cover (1).
7) Turn steering wheel to remove steering column cover screws (3).
8) Remove steering column covers (2).






9) Remove glove box (1).
10) Remove hood latch release lever (2).





11) Remove console box referring to Diagrams Console Box Components.
12) Remove front pillar trims (1), front side sill scuffs (2) and dash side trims (3).





13) Disconnect instrument panel harness connectors, inside air temperature sensor duct and antenna cable instrument panel removal.
14) Remove steering column mounting nuts referring to Steering Column Assembly Removal and Installation Steering Column Assembly Removal and Installation.
15) Remove instrument panel ground wire.
16) Remove instrument panel mounting bolts (1).
17) Remove instrument panel (2) with steering support member and instrument panel harness.






Installation

Reverse removal procedure noting the following.

- When installing each part, be careful not to catch any cable or wiring harness.
- Tighten instrument panel mounting bolts to specified torque

Tightening torque
Instrument panel mounting bolt (a): 23 Nm (2.3 kgf-m, 17.0 lbf-ft)





- Tighten steering column mounting nuts referring to Steering Column Assembly Removal and Installation Steering Column Assembly Removal and Installation.
- Enable air bag system referring to Enabling Air Bag System Enabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag or Enabling Air Bag System Enabling Air Bag System:Except Advanced Air Bag.
