Steering Knuckle Removal and Installation

Front Wheel Hub Assembly and Steering Knuckle Components

Removal

1) Hoist vehicle and remove front wheel.
2) Remove front wheel hub assembly. Front Suspension
3) Disconnect tie-rod end from steering knuckle. Service and Repair
4) Remove front wheel speed sensor (1) from knuckle.
5) Loosen ball joint nut (2).





6) Remove strut bracket bolts (2) and nuts (1).











7) Disconnect drive shaft (1) from steering knuckle (2).
8) Remove steering knuckle (2) from control arm (3) using puller (4).






Installation

Suspension Control Arm / Steering Knuckle Check

For installation, reverse removal procedure, noting the following instructions.

NOTE:

The strut bracket nuts and bolts are pre-coated with friction stabilizer. If the nuts and bolts are reused, it may work loose.

Never reuse the strut bracket nuts and bolts.

1) Connect steering knuckle to suspension control arm.
2) Install new strut bracket bolts (2) and nuts (1).
3) Tighten strut bracket nuts (1) to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Strut bracket nut (a): 128 Nm (13.1 kgf-m, 94.5 lbf-ft)









4) Tighten new suspension control arm ball joint nut (1) to specified torque.

NOTE:
If suspension control arm ball joint nut are reused, they may work loose.

Be sure to replace the suspension control arm ball joint nut with new ones whenever they are removed.

Tightening torque
Suspension control arm ball joint nut (a): 55 Nm (5.5 kgf-m, 40.0 lbf-ft)

5) Install front wheel speed sensor (2) and tighten front wheel speed sensor bolt (3).

Tightening torque
Front wheel speed sensor bolt (b): 11 Nm (1.1 kgf-m, 8.5 lbf-ft)





6) Connect tie-rod end to steering knuckle. Service and Repair
7) Install front wheel hub assembly and dust cover to steering knuckle. Front Suspension
8) Install front wheel and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque. Removal and Replacement
9) Check front wheel alignment adjust it as necessary. Front Suspension
