Precautions in Wheel and Tire Servicing

Precautions in Wheel and Tire Servicing

- Wheel repairs that use welding, heating, or peening are not approved. All damaged wheels should be replaced.
- There are two types of vehicles, whether equipped with TPMS or not. Check which type of vehicle is being serviced, referring to Application and ID Identification of Vehicle with TPMS
first before servicing its tire or wheel. Failure to follow the specified procedure when servicing the tire or wheel of the TPMS equipped vehicle may cause damage to the tire pressure sensor.

TPMS

- As the wheel of the TPMS equipped vehicle has a tire pressure sensor, its differs in the shape from that of the vehicle without TPMS. When replacing the wheel of the TPMS equipped vehicle, be sure to use the genuine wheel specified by the manufacturer.
- When replacing the tire of the TPMS equipped vehicle, check to make sure that the tire size is as specified in the "Tire Placard". If the size of the installed tire is out of specification, the tire pressure sensor may be broken because of its contact of the bead of the tire.
- If repair sealant is used for a flat tire, the hole of the tire pressure sensor can be clogged with the sealant and the TPMS cannot operate normally.
Do not reuse the tire pressure sensor which has been installed on a tire repaired with sealant.
- For precautions to be taken when diagnosing troubles of the TPMS equipped vehicle, refer to Service Precautions Precautions in Diagnosing Troubles.

Spare tire (For vehicle equipped with TPMS)

When a spare tire is used as a running wheel, ID codes of all tire pressure sensors installed to 4 tires must be re-registered in BCM. When the vehicle is driven without re-registration of the ID codes, BCM detects a faulty condition of the system and makes the low tire pressure warning light flash. For the registration procedure, refer to Registration Procedure for Tire Pressure Sensor ID Code Registration Procedure for Tire Pressure Sensor ID Code.

Studs

If a broken stud is found, replace it referring to Front Suspension Front Wheel Hub Assembly Removal and Installation or Rear Wheel Hub Assembly Removal and Installation Rear Wheel Hub Assembly Removal and Installation
