When installing the water temperature switch during an air conditioner installation, the following procedure must be observed to prevent switch damage:

Procedure Tighten and torque the water temperature switch using only hand tools with a deep socket.


Caution
- Do not insmll the switch using air tools.

- Do not over torque the switch during installation.
- Do not drop or strike the switch in any way.
- Do not use sealing tape on threads.

Symptoms of Failure

- Compressor clutch does not engage.

- Condenser fan motor does not turn off.


Troubleshooting and Testing
- With the A/C system "on", connect the water tempemtum switch lead wire to ground, the compressor clutch should engage.
- Using a Ohmmeter, check the switch at room temperature for continuity between the housing and terminal. If there is no continuity, the switch is defective and must be replaced.


Fact
- The switch connects are normally closed, and open (break ground) only during an engine overheating condition.
