YEAR: PRIOR TO 1991 MODELS

Noise occurs under light acceleration, at about 35 mph and/or about 65 mph. Test drive vehicle and note speeds at which noise occurs, then:

1. Disconnect speedometer and test drive. If noise is gone, replace speedometer cable with P/N 34910-61B20. Test drive vehicle again after installing new part to assure that noise is gone.






2. If noise occurs about 35 mph, replace countershaft (P/N 24131-62020) and final gear (P/N 27511-62820) both must be replaced.



3. If noise occurs about 65 mph, replace countershaft (P/N 24131-62B20), final gear (P/N 27511-62B20) and output shaft set (P/N 24100-82843).

4. If only # 2 and # 3 are performed, make a final test drive with speedometer cable disconnected to determine if it too needs to be replaced.

Early 1989 Vehicles have a countershaft with a smaller diameter shaft, than the replacement part:
