Fig. 18 Valve Lash Specification:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove cylinder head cover.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove right side fender apron extension.
3. Using 17 mm socket, turn crankshaft pulley clockwise until V mark on pulley aligns with 0 mark on timing belt cover.
4. Remove distributor cap, then check if rotor is positioned as shown in Fig. 15. If rotor is out of place, turn crankshaft clockwise one full turn.
5. Check valve lash at valves 1, 2, 5 and 7, Fig. 16.
6. Using a suitable feeler gauge measure clearance at gap (A), Fig. 17. Clearance should be as specified in Fig. 18.
7. If clearance is not as specified, adjust by turning adjusting screw until correct clearance is obtained, Fig. 17.
8. After adjustment, torque screw locknut to specifications while holding adjusting screw with screwdriver.
9. Rotate crankshaft one full turn.
10. Check valve lash at valves 3, 4, 6, and 8 in same manner.
11. Install valve cover and distributor cap. Torque bolts to specifications.
12. Install air cleaner assembly.
