Section Title: Body Electrical

Division: Automotive

Category: Technical

SUBJECT: MODIFICATION OF AUTOMATIC (PASSIVE) SEAT BELT CONTROL MODULE AND DIAGNOSTICS

MODEL: SWIFT

YEAR: 1990 AND 1991

CONDITION: PART CHANGES AND INCORRECT INFORMATION IN DIAGNOSTIC SECRIONS OF SERVICE MANUALS

CAUSE: UPDATE OF SYSTEMS

CORRECTION: NOTE PART NUMBER CHANGES AND UPDATE SERVICE MANUALS

PARTS CHANGE

The early passive main controller (P/N 38890-60B00) has been superceded to a late part (P/N 38890-60B01). Only the late main controller will be available through the parts department. The early main controller was used in conjuncdon with a SUB-CONTROLLER which is to be disconnected and discarded when replacing with the late part number. If the sub-controller is determined to be faulty, and the eartly main controller is determined to be good, the sub-controller will still be available through the parts department. Both the early and late controllers have a 20 pin connnector, while the sub-controller has a 9 pin connector.

NOTE:
The diagnostics in this bulletin will apply to all 1990 and 1991 systems. The only difference will be whether the system uses both an early main and sub controller or a late main controller. Use the applicable service manual along with this bulletin to diagnose and repair these systems!

SERVICE MANUAL DIAGRAMS AND DIAGNOSTICS CHANGES

Beginning with November 1989 production, the sub-controller and it's wiring are deleted from Swift vehicles, due to the modification of the main controller (P/N 38890-60B00 changed to P/N 38890-60B01) however, the service manuals show the wiring and parts for the sub-controller. Please make the appropriate changes to your service manuals (in the Body Section) to reflect these changes. These changes are shown in detail on this and the following pages.
