SUBJECT: MANUAL SECOND GEAR SYNCHRONIZER MODIFICATION
MODEL: SWIFT
YEAR: 1989 AND LATER


CONDITION: Improve synchronizing performance during 1-2 upshift and 3-2 downshift.

CAUSE: Second gear synchronizer ring and low speed hub assembly.

CORRECTION: Replace second gear synchronizer ring and low speed hub assembly as a set with new parts, when repairing transaxle with second gear clash.





NOTE:

Using GM Synchromesh Transmission Fluid GM part number # 12345349 will also help improve shifting characteristics. GM Synchromesh Transmission Fluid may be obtained through any GM/Chevrolet dealer.





PART IDENTIFICATION
1. Low Speed Synchronizer hub (assembly).





2. Low Speed synchronizer ring


CAUTION: When replacing the Low Speed Synchronizer hub assembly or the Low Speed Synchronizer ring, replace both of them as a set using only the latest parts. Failure to replace these parts as a set can cause premature failure of the parts.


NOTE: When disassembling any transmission/transaxle for repairs, always inspect all parts for wear or damage and replace only as necessary.
