Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove battery and tray.
2. Remove clutch cable joint nut, joint pin from cable and cable from bracket.
3. Disconnect wiring harness clamps and couplers.
4. Remove speedometer cable from case, then disconnect radiator outlet pipe from transmission side cover.
5. Remove transmission upper attaching bolts, then starter motor.
6. Raise on support vehicle, then drain transmission oil.
7. Remove left side fender apron extension, then exhaust pipe from manifold.
8. Disconnect control shaft from gear shift shaft, then remove extension rod with washers.
9. Remove clutch housing lower plate, then disconnect lower suspension (control) arm from steering knuckle.
10. Disconnect left side driveshaft joint from differential gear of transmission.
11. Remove center bearing support bolts and pull out center driveshaft from differential gear.
12. Remove transmission stiffener, then transmission to engine attaching bolt/nut.
13. Remove engine rear mounting bracket and bolts.
14. Lower vehicle as necessary and support engine and transmission with suitable jacks.
15. Remove engine mounting lefthand bracket and stiffener, then remove any parts still attached to transmission.
16. Pull transmission rearward to disconnect input shaft from clutch disc.
17. Lower and remove transmission from vehicle.
18. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply Suzuki No. 1215 sealant or equivalent, to threads of engine rear mounting bracket upper bolt.
b. Push in left side driveshaft joint fully. Ensure snap ring of shaft engages with differential gear.
c. Apply grease to gear shift control shaft bushing. Do not lubricate extension rod bushing.
d. Adjust clutch cable as outlined under ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES/CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT.
