Checking Fluid Level

Hot Level Check At Normal Operating Temperature

1. Operate vehicle until normal operating temperature is reached.
2. Place car on level surface, then apply parking brake and block wheels.
3. With selector lever in Park position, start engine. Do not race engine.
4. Run engine at idle speed and move selector lever through each range, returning to Park position.
5. With engine running at idle, remove oil level gauge from filler tube, wipe clean and reinsert in filler tube.
6. Remove gauge and check oil level. Level should be between Full Hot and Low Hot marks. If level is below Low Hot mark, add fluid to bring level to Full Hot mark.

Cold Level Check At Room Temperature

Use this procedure only if transmission was serviced.
1. Place car on level surface, then apply parking brake and block wheels.
2. With selector lever in Park position, start engine and run it at idle for five minutes. Do not race engine.
3. Move selector lever through each range, returning to Park position.
4. With engine running at idle, check fluid level on oil level gauge. Fluid level should be between Full Cold and Low Cold marks. If level is below Low Cold, add fluid to bring level between Low Cold and Full Cold.
