Idle Speed Adjustment
^ Before idle speed check and adjustment, make sure of the following.- Lead wires and hoses of Electronic Fuel Injection and engine emission control systems are connected securely.
- Accelerator cable has some play, that is, it is not tight.
- Ignition timing is within specification.
- All accessories (wipers, heater, lights, etc.) are out of service.
- Air-conditioner is OFF, if equipped.
- Air cleaner has been properly installed and is in good condition.
^ After above items are all confirmed, check idle speed as follows.
NOTE: Before starting engine, place transmission gear shift lever in "Neutral" (shift selector lever to "P" range for A/T model), and set parking brake and block drive wheels.
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
- Set tachometer
Grounding Diagnosis Switch Terminal:
- Connect spare fuse to diagnosis switch terminal in junction/fuse block, and amount of air supplied by ISC solenoid valve will be kept constant.
NOTE: At this time, "CHECK ENGINE" light should indicate diagnostic code No. 12. If not, proceed to COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS.
- Check to ensure that idle speed is within below specification.
Engine Idle speed 850 ± 50 rpm
- If idle speed is not within specified range, adjust it by turning idle speed adjusting screw.
- This step is for checking and/or adjusting engine idle speed when air-conditioner is working.
With cars without air conditioner, advance. With air-conditioner equipped ones, follow procedure described below to steps a, b and c.
a) Turn air-conditioner switch ON and set heater blower switch to low speed position. Then check that air-conditioner is working.
b) Check to ensure that idle speed is within below specification.
Engine idle speed with air-conditioner ON 900 ± 60 rpm
c) If it is not within specified range, adjust it by turning adjusting screw of air-conditioner VSV.
Upon completion of adjustment, install adjusting screw cap to throttle body.
- Disconnect spare fuse from diagnosis switch terminal.
