Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
CAUTION: A small amount of fuel may be released after fuel line is disconnected. In order to reduce chance of personal injury, cover fitting to be disconnected with a shop cloth. Place that cloth in an approved container when disconnection is completed.1. Relieve fuel pressure according to procedure..
2. Remove ISC solenoid valve and EGR modulator bracket (if equipped).
3. Disconnect fuel feed hose from fuel delivery pipe.
Connecting Fuel Pressure Gauge:
4. Connect special tool (fuel pressure gauge, hose & 3-way joint) between fuel delivery pipe and fuel feed hose, and clamp hoses securely to ensure no leak occurs during checking.
5. Check that battery voltage is above 11V.
Removing Fuel Pump Relay:
6. Remove fuel pump relay from main fuse box after disconnecting it's coupler, and then reconnect coupler to fuel pump relay.
By-Passing Relay To Operate Fuel Pump:
7. To operate fuel pump, connect Pink and White/Blue wire terminals by using service wire and then turn ON ignition switch.
8. Measure fuel pressure under each of following conditions.
CONDITION PRESSURE
PUMP ON 2.5 - 2.7 kg/cm2
AND 250 - 270 kPa
ENGINE OFF 35.5 - 38.4 psi
CONDITION PRESSURE
FOR 1 MIN. Over 1.8 kg/cm2
AFTER FUEL 180 kPa
PUMP STOPS 25.6 psi
(PRESSURE
GRADUALLY
REDUCES)
9. Disconnect service wire.
10. Install ISC solenoid valve.
11. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Measure fuel pressure at specified idle speed.
FUEL PRESSURE AT IDLE
1.8-2.1 kg/cm2 (180-210 kPa, 25.6-29.9)
If measured pressure doesn't satisfy specification, refer to Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Procedures and check each possibly defective part. Replace if found defective.
12. Relieve fuel pressure according to procedure.
13. Remove fuel pressure gauge, hose & 3-way joint after removing ISC solenoid valve.
14. Connect fuel feed hose to fuel delivery pipe and clamp it securely.
15. Install ISC solenoid valve and EGR modulator bracket (if equipped).
16. Start engine and check for fuel leaks.
