Fig. 29 Installing Torque Convertor:





1. Remove engine and transmission from vehicle as outlined under ENGINE MECHANICAL/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/ENGINE.
2. Remove torque convertor housing lower plate.
3. Remove drive plate bolts. Use flat head screwdriver to lock drive plate and drive plate gear.
4. Remove starter motor, then transmission stiffener.
5. Remove engine to transmission attaching bolts, then separate engine from transmission.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply grease around cup at center of torque convertor, Fig. 29.
b. Measure distance A, Fig. 29. This distance should exceed .85 inch (21.4 mm). If distance is less than specified, the torque converter is improperly installed.
c. Torque drive plate bolts to specification.
