Fuel Tank: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
- Relieve fuel pressure in fuel feed line.
- Negative battery cable.
- Rear seat cushion.

Fuel Pump And Sender Connectors:





- Fuel level gauge and fuel pump electrical connector.
- Hoist car.

Breather And Filler Hoses:





- Fuel filler hose from fuel tank and breather hose from filler neck.
- As fuel tank has no drain plug, drain tank by fueling fuel put of filler neck (use a hand operated pump).

Disconnecting Hoses:





- Fuel hoses from pipes.
- Fuel tank from car.

INSPECTION
- Check hoses and pipes connected to the tank for leaks, loose connections, deterioration or damage.
- Check fuel pump and sender gasket for leakage, visually check tank for leaks and damage. Replace any damaged or mal-conditioned parts.

FUEL TANK PURGING PROCEDURE

CAUTION: This purging procedure will NOT remove all fuel vapor. Do not attempt any repair on tank using heat or flame as an explosion resulting in personal injury could occur.

Following procedure is used for purging fuel tank.
- After removing fuel tank, remove all hoses, 2-way check valve, fuel pump and fuel level gauge from fuel tank.
- Drain all remaining fuel from tank.
- Move tank to flushing area.
- Fill tank with warm water or tap water, and agitate vigorously and drain. Repeat this washing until inside of tank is clean. Replace tank if its inside is rusty.
- Completely flush out remaining water after washing.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
- Fuel pump and fuel level gauge to fuel tank. Use new gasket.
- 2-way check valve to fuel tank directing it's black nozzle toward fuel tank.
- Fuel hoses and pipes to fuel tank.
- Clamp hoses and wire harness securely.
- Fuel breather hose to fuel tank.
- Fuel tank to car.
- Fuel filler hose to tank and breather hose to filler neck and clamp them securely.
- Fuel hoses to filter and pipes as shown in Fig. 6C-14 and clamp them securely.
- Fuel pump and level gauge couplers. Fix its wire with tape.
- Rear seat cushion.
- Negative cable to battery.
- With engine "OFF" and ignition switch "ON", check for fuel leaks,
