This bulletin is to inform you of the precautions that must be taken when painting gray bumpers for use as replacement parts. There are three spare part bumper colors that are available: White, Polypropylene, and Gray. This bulletin deals only with the gray bumpers. Since these bumpers are finished from the factory with gray primer # 799 (two liquid urethane gray paint), special painting procedures must be followed when applying the topcoat of paint. Improper painting procedures will cause a defective finish, such as paint lifting or bubbles.
PAINTING PRECAUTIONS IN APPLYING TOP COAT TO GRAY BUMPERS:
1. To avoid paint lifting before painting:
^ Do not grind or polish the bumper.
^ Do not use strong solvents.
^ Do not apply additional primer.
2. Be sure to use "TWO LIQUID-TYPE URETHANE PAINT" only. NEVER USE LACQUER. Lacquer will cause bubbles and paint lifting.
3. When drying, be careful not to use too much heat.
High limit: 176~F (80~C) x 30 minutes.
4. Do not apply the paint too thick. Standard paint thickness is as shown.
