Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then, ensure SIR/air bag system is disarmed.

2. Remove steering wheel, contact coil and combination switch, Fig. 12.
3. Remove hole cover and knee bolster panel.
4. Remove steering column harness from column.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors
6. Remove steering joint upper cover, then upper joint bolt.
7. Remove steering column mounting nuts.
8. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect shift interlock cable from ignition switch with switch positioned at ACC. After disconnecting, turn lock switch to LOCK position.
9. Remove steering column.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering column upper mounting nuts, then lower mounting nuts to 30.5 ft. lbs.
b. Torque steering shaft upper joint to 18 ft. lbs.
