TSB No. 010 03177(R)Section Title: General Tech. Info
Division: Automotive
Category: Technical
SUBJECT:
AIR BAG SYSTEM ENABLE/DISABLE PROCEDURE
MODEL:
ALL MODELS WITH AIR BAG SYSTEM
YEAR:
1995 and later
CONDITION:
Necessary to disable air bag system before repairs and enable after repairs
CAUSE:
Prevent accidental air bag deployment, personal injury or unneeded air bag repairs.
CORRECTION:
Follow procedure listed below.
REVISION:
Change in repair application.
The SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module) can maintain sufficient voltage to cause a deployment of air bag for up to ninety (90) seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position, the battery is disconnected or the fuse powering the SDM is removed. Many of the service procedures require disconnection of the "AIR BAG-IG" fuse and the air bag (inflator) modules (driver and passenger) from the deployment loop to avoid accidental deployment. Diagnostic procedures do not normally require fuse removal or disconnection of air bag (inflator) modules.
WARNING:
When performing service on or around air bag system components or air bag wiring, follow the procedures listed on the following pages to temporarily disable the air bag system. Refer to appropriate service manual procedures. Failure to follow procedures could result in possible air bag deployment, personal injury or unneeded air bag system repairs.
