Removal

UNDER HOOD
1. Disconnect negative cable at battery and transmission.
2. Disconnect coupler for solenoids, vehicle speed sensor (for speedometer), shift lever switch, forward clutch cylinder revolution sensor and vehicle speed sensor.
3. Undo wiring harness clamps.
4. Disconnect select cable from transmission.
5. Drain cooling system.
6. Remove water intake pipe
7. Remove transmission-to-engine bolts.
8. Remove starting motor. Starting motor plate should also come down.





9. Remove exhaust manifold cover.
10. Remove exhaust manifold to No. 1 pipe nuts.
11. Support engine to prevent one from being declined excessively at removal of mounting supports.
12. Check around transmission for any other parts required to be removed or disconnected for dismounting of transmission and remove or disconnect whatever necessary.

ON LIFT
1. Drain transmission fluid.
2. Remove engine under covers.
3. Disconnect oil cooler hoses.
4. Remove mounting member.
5. Remove exhaust pipe.





6. Remove stiffener.
7. Remove transmission housing lower plate.





8. Holding drive plate with a large size screwdriver against rotation, remove drive plate bolts.





9. By using a large size screwdriver, pull out drive shaft joints at differential side so as to release snap ring fitting.
10. Disconnect stabilizer joints from suspension arms on both sides.
11. Remove ball stud bolts and nuts from both knuckles and detach suspension arms and then pull out both drive shaft joints from differential.





12. Remove engine rear mounting and its bracket.
13. Remove engine-to-transmission bolt and nut.
14. Support transmission with transmission jack.





15. Remove bolts from engine LH mounting.
16. Remove transmission with torque converter from engine compartment.

WARNING: Be sure to keep transmission with torque converter horizontal or facing up through out the work. Should it be tilted with torque converter down, converter may fall off and cause personal injury.





17. Remove engine LH mounting and its bracket from transmission case.
