Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
WARNING: When handling an air bag (inflator) module, be sure to read "HANDLING PRECAUTIONS" and observe each instruction. Failure to follow them could cause a damage to the air bag (inflator) module or result in personal injury. Handling PrecautionsREMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Disable air bag system. Service and Repair
3. Remove steering wheel side cap of right side and disconnect horn connectors.
4. Remove air bag (inflator) module bolts (2 pcs).
Special Tool (A): 09944-18230 or equivalent.
5. Remove air bag (inflator) module from steering wheel.
WARNING: Special care is necessary when handling and storing a live (undeployed) air bag (inflator) module. Observe I "Handling Precaution" earlier in this section. Other wise, personal injury may result.
INSPECTION
WARNING: Never disassemble air bag (inflator) module or measure its resistance. Otherwise, personal injury may result.
CAUTION: If air bag (inflator) module was dropped from a height of 91.4 cm (3 ft.) or more, it should be replaced.
Check air bag (inflator) module visually and if any of the following is found, replace it with a new one.
1. Air bag being deployed.
2. Trim cover (pad surface) being cracked.
3. Wire harness or connector being damaged.
4. Air bag (inflator) module being damaged or having been exposed to strong impact (dropped).
INSTALLATION
1. After making sure that wire harness at the back of air bag (inflator) module is arranged as shown in figure, install air bag (inflator) module to steering wheel, taking care so that no part of wire harness is caught between them.
2. Tighten air bag (inflator) module left side bolt first and then its right side bolt to specified torque.
Special Tool (A): 09944-18230 or equivalent.
Tightening Torque (a): 18 - 28 Nm (13.5 - 20.0 ft. lbs.)
Make sure that clearance between module and steering wheel is uniform all the way.
3. Connect horn connectors securely, fit connector onto projection of steering wheel right side cap and then install right side cap on steering wheel lower cover.
4. Connect negative battery cable.
5. Enable air bag system. Service and Repair
