Battery: Testing and Inspection

DIAGNOSIS

VISUAL INSPECTION
Check for obvious damage, such as cracked or broken case or cover, that could permit loss of electrolyte. If obvious damage is noted, replace battery. Determine cause of damage and correct as needed. If not, move on to load test.

INDICATOR CHECK
1. Blue With Red Dot -or- Green Dot
Proceed to load test.

2. Clear With Red Dot -or- Dark
Charge battery as outlined under charging procedure section and proceed to load test.

LOAD TEST
1) Connect voltmeter and battery load tester across battery terminals.
2) Apply 200 ampere load for 15 seconds to remove surface charge. Remove load.
3) Wait 15 seconds to let battery recover and apply specified load.
Read voltage after 15 seconds.
4) If voltage does not drop below the minimum as listed below, battery is good. Temperature of battery will affect minimum voltage required to pass load test.See below chart and estimate the temperature battery has been exposed to for the last several hours.
