Alignment: Service and Repair
PREPARATION FOR INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT1. Place vehicle in non-loaded state on level floor.
2. Set steering wheel in straight state.
3. Check that inflation pressure of each tire is adjusted properly and disc wheel is free from deflection.
4. Check that each suspension part is free from bend, dent, wear or damage in any other form.
5. Check that ground clearance at the right and left is just about the same.
FRONT ALIGNMENT
Camber And Caster
Camber: 0° ± 1°
Caster: 2.7° ± 2° (24.7 mm, 0.97 inch)
Should camber or caster be found out of specifications upon inspection, locate its cause first. If it is in damaged, loose, bent, dented or worn suspension parts, they should be replaced. If it is in vehicle body, repair it so as to attain specifications.
NOTE: To prevent possible incorrect reading of camber or caster, vehicle front end must be moved up and down a few times before inspection.
Steering Angle:
Inside: 39° ± 3°
Outside: 34° ± 3°
Reference Information:
Side slip: For inspecting front wheel side slip with side slip tester:
Side slip limit: Less than 3 mm/m (Less than 0.118 inch/3.3 ft.)
If side slip exceeds above limit, toe-in or front wheel alignment may not be correct.
When tie rod or tie rod end was replaced, check toe and then also steering angle with turning radius gauge. If steering angle is not correct, check if right and left tie rods are equal in length ("A").
NOTE: If tie rod lengths were changed to adjust steering angle, reinspect toe-in.
Toe Setting
Toe-In: 0 ± 2 mm (0 ± 0.079 inch)
1. Toe is adjusted by changing the tie rod length. Loosen right and left tie rod end lock nuts first and then rotate right and left tie rods by the same amount to align toe-in to specification. In this adjustment, right and left tie rods should become equal in length ("A" in figure).
NOTE: Before rotating tie rods, apply grease between tie rods and rack boots so that boots won't be twisted.
2. After adjustment, tighten lock nuts to specified torque and make sure that rack boots are not twisted.
Tightening Torque: (a): 45 Nm (33.0 ft. lbs.)
Kingpin Inclination 12°36' ± 3°
REAR ALIGNMENT
Inspection
1. Measure toe with toe-in gauge. Toe should be within following specifications.
Toe-in: 2 ± 2 mm (0.079 ± 0.079 inch)
2. When checked with side slip tester, side slip should satisfy following specification.
Side slip: 2 ± 3 mm/m (0.079 ± 0.118 inch/3.3 ft.)
3. If toe-in or side slip is out of above corresponding specification, adjust toe properly.
Adjustment
1. Loosen right and left No. 2 control rod inner nuts.
2. Adjust toe to satisfy specification by turning right and left No. 2 control rod inner bolts (cam bolts) by the same, amount.
3. After adjustment, tighten right and left nuts to specified torque while holding cam bolt with another wrench to prevent it from turning.
Tightening Torque (a): 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
4. Install suspension frame cap.
