INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
This bulletin is to inform you of change in the inspection procedure of EVAP canister purge valve in our service manuals.
In the inspection procedure of EVAP canister purge valve in our service manuals air is blown into its inlet nozzle to check if it functions correctly. However it is found that there is a possibility that its plunger is damaged by the use of high-pressure air that may be used for this test.
As a countermeasure it is decided that vacuum is applied to its outlet nozzle to check it's on and off operation. The detailed procedure is described below in "How to Inspect EVAP Canister Purge Valve".
Please update your service manuals according to the procedure described below.
How to Inspect EVAP Canister Purge Valve
WARNING:
Do not apply vacuum by mouth; otherwise harmful fuel vapor can be inhaled.
1. With ignition switch at OFF position disconnect coupler (1) from EVAP canister purge valve (2).
2. Apply -53kPa (-7.69Psi) to -67kPa (-9.72Psi) vacuum pressure to outlet nozzle (1) of EVAP canister purge valve by using special tool. If vacuum is held go to the next step. If not replace EVAP canister purge valve with new one.
CAUTION:
Do not apply more than -86kPa (-12.47Psi) vacuum pressure and do not blow high pressure air into outlet nozzle; otherwise EVAP canister purge valve could be damaged.
3. Connect 12V-battery to terminals of EVAP canister purge valve.
4. Keeping the 12V-battery connected to the terminals of EVAP canister purge valve and apply vacuum to outlet nozzle of EVAP canister purge valve by using special tool as described above. If vacuum can not held the EVAP canister purge valve is in good condition. If the vacuum is held replace EVAP canister purge valve with new one.
