Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
COMPRESSORREMOVAL
1) Run engine at idle with air conditioning on for 10 minutes.
2) Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
3) Recover refrigerant from refrigeration system using recovery and recyling equipment. The amount of compressor oil removed must be measured and the amount added to the system.
4) Disconnect clutch stator lead wire from A/C wire harness.
5) Disconnect suction and discharge flexible hoses from compressor.
6) Remove O rings from hoses.
NOTE: Cap open fittings immediately to keep moisture out of system.
7) Hoist vehicle and remove front fender apron extention (R) and oil filter.
8) Loosen compressor drive belt,then remove compressor mounting bolts.
9) Remove compressor with clutch ass'y from its mounts.
10) Drain oil from compressor,and measure its amount.
NOTE: When removing compressor,be careful not to damage fins of condenser.
INSTALLATION
1) Reverse removal sequence to install compressor ass'y.
2) Pour new compressor oil by the same amount as that drained from compressor.
3) Evacuate and charge system according to previously described procedure.
CAUTION: Be sure to use HFC-134a (R-134a) compressor oil.
NOTE: Compressor assembly supplied from factory is filled up with following amount of oil.
Oil Capacity in A/C system: 90 cm3 (90 cc 5.5 cu. in.)
