Compressor Shaft Seal: Service and Repair

Mechanical Seal

REMOVAL




1. Remove magnet clutch.
2. Try out retainer with oil felt, by using special tool (C).

(C): 09900 - 06107




3. Remove key.
Using a hammer and driver, drive key from shaft.




4. Remove circlip, by using special tool (F).

5. Remove mechanical seal using special tool (G). The following explains this removal procedure.
1. Fit special tool (G) into clutch installation boss.
2. Twist special tool until 2 lips on tool fit in slot in mechanical seal housing.

3. Pull up special tool (G) to remove mechanical seal.

INSTALLATION




1. Install mechanical seal.
1. Coat special tool (H) surface with oil and install it to the shaft.

2. Apply oil to mechanical seal O-ring and install it over special tool (H). When fitting mechanical seal over the special tool, care should be taken so as not to confuse its designated direction. The illustration shows the designated direction.

CAUTION: Do not reuse mechanical seal once removed from compressor.




3. Using special tool (G), press it slowly by hand until mechanical seal contacts the stopper of clutch installation boss.

NOTE: With mechanical seal pressed in completely, its upper face must come to a the position lower than circlip fitting groove. Check this condition visually.

CAUTION: Do not use a press machine, hammer, etc. to push on special tool (G).




2. Install circlip.

NOTE: Position circlip with round edge facing down as shown.

3. Install new key in shaft groove.




4. Install oil felt.
Tap new oil felt inside the bore.
5. Install magnet clutch.
