Back Door Glass Removal And InstallationRemoval
1. Clean both sides of glass and around it.
2. Remove wiper arm.
3. Attach masking tape to body around glass to prevent damage to glass.
4. Remove back door trim, defogger coupler and high mount stop light.
5. Cut adhesive by using a windshield removing knife or the like.
CAUTION:
- To prevent body from being scratched, cut as closely to glass as possible.
- Cut adhesive of "A" and "B" from inside of glass and "C" and "D" from outside of glass.
- As adhesive of "B" has a positioning pin at its center, avoid it when cutting adhesive.
- Avoid dam rubber when cutting adhesive of "C" and "D".
6. Using knife, smooth adhesive (2) remaining on body side so that it is 1 - 2 mm thick all around.
NOTE: Before using knife, clean it with alcohol or the like to remove oil from it.
7. When re-using glass, remove adhesive from glass, using care not to damage primer coated surface.
Installation
1. Using cleaning solvent, clean surface of adhesive remaining on body (or windshield edge) where windshield glass is to be adhered. (Let it dry for more than 10 minutes)
2. Clean contact surfaces of old adhesive (4), paint or bare metal thoroughly.
If surfaces of paint or bare metal come out, apply primer (2) for body with caution not to apply primer to surface of adhesive remaining on body.
NOTE:
- Be sure to refer to primer maker's instruction for proper handling and drying time.
- Do not touch body and old adhesive surfaces where glass is to be adhered.
3. Clean new glass (6) surface to be adhered to window with clean cloth. If cleaning solvent is used, let it dry for more than 10 minutes.
4. Using new brush (1), apply sufficient amount of primer (2) for glass along glass surface to be adhered ("a", "b" and "c" in the figure) to window.
NOTE:
- Be sure to refer to maker's instruction for proper handling and drying time.
- Do not touch primer coated surface.
Primer amount specifications (back door glass)
Width "a": Approx. 16 mm (0.63 in.)
Width "b": Approx. 16 mm (0.63 in.)
Width "c": Approx. 16 mm (0.63 in.)
Width "d": Approx. 14 mm (0.55 in.)
5. Apply adhesive (3) along upper and lower molding (1) as shown in the figure.
NOTE:
- Start from bottom side of glass (4).
- Height of applied adhesive should exceed that of trim and molding.
- Adhesive should be applied evenly especially in height.
- Be careful not to damage primer.
- Press glass against body quickly after adhesive is applied.
- Perform Steps 5) to 7) within 10 min. to ensure sufficient adhesion.
- Be sure to refer to adhesive maker's instruction for proper handling and drying time.
- Use of rubber sucker grips is helpful to hold and carry glass after adhesive is applied.
Adhesive amount specifications (back door glass)
Height "e": Approx. 14 mm (0.55 in.)
Width "f": Approx. 7 mm (0.28 in.)
Dimension "g": Approx. 1.5 mm (0.06 in.)
Dimension "h": Approx. 22 mm (0.87 in.)
6. Peel paper from molding.
7. Press glass against body so that clip hole in body matches with clip position on glass.
8. Check for water leakage by running water from hose over window. If leakage is found, dry window and fill leaky point with adhesive. If water still leaks even after that, remove glass and start installation procedure all over again.
NOTE:
- Do not use high pressure water.
- Do not blow compressed air directly at adhesive applied part when drying.
- Do not use an infrared lamp or the like for drying.
CAUTION: Upon completion of installation, note the following.
- Sudden closing of door before adhesive is completely set may cause glass to become loose or to come off. Therefore, if door is opened or closed before adhesive is completely set, make sure to open all door glasses and use proper care.
- If molding is not securely in place, hold it down with a tape until adhesive is completely set.
- Each adhesive has its own setting time. Be sure to refer to maker's instruction, check setting time of adhesive to be used and observe precautions to be taken before adhesive is set.
- Refrain from driving till adhesive is completely set so as to ensure proper and sufficient adhesion.
