Removal and Installation
FORWARD (DISCRIMINATING) SENSORWARNING: During service procedures, be very careful when handling a sensor.
- Never strike or jar a sensor.
- Under some circumstances, it could cause improper operation of the air bag system. A sensor and mounting bracket bolts must be carefully torqued to assure proper operation.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Disable air bag system.
3. Disconnect forward (discriminating) sensor connector. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) first and then disconnect forward (discriminating) sensor connector while pushing connector lock.
4. Remove forward (discriminating) sensor bolts, and forward (discriminating) sensor from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Proper operation of forward (discriminating) sensor requires sensor be rigidly attached to vehicle structure and that the arrow on sensor be pointing toward the front of the vehicle.
1. Check that none of following faulty conditions exists.
- Bend or deformity of sensor bracket and hood lock member.
- Foreign matter on mating surface of sensor bracket with sensor or excessive rust.
- Loosened sensor bracket bolts.
2. Install forward (discriminating) sensor in vehicle, ensuring that arrow is pointing toward the front of the vehicle.
3. Apply thread lock cement (thread-locking compound) to sensor bolts thread and tighten them to specified torque.
4. Connect forward (discriminating) sensor connector and CPA to connector securely. Fit connector onto member.
5. Connect negative cable to battery.
6. Enable air bag system.
