Wiring Diagram

DTC Detecting Condition and Trouble Area

DTC Confirmation Procedure

WARNING:

- When performing a road test, select a place where there is no traffic or possibility of a traffic accident and very careful during testing to avoid occurrence of an accident.
- Road test should be carried out with 2 persons, a driver and tester, on a level road.

NOTE:

Check to make sure that the following conditions are satisfied when using this DTC confirmation procedure.

- Intake air temp.: -14 °C, 6.8 °F or higher
- Altitude (barometric pressure): 2020 m, 6650 ft or less (540 mmHg, 72 kPa or more)

1) With ignition switch turned OFF, connect scan tool.
2) Turn ON ignition switch and clear DTC using scan tool.
3) Start engine and warm up to normal operating temperature.
4) Increase vehicle speed to 40 mph, 60 km/h or more.
5) Keep the vehicle speed for 5 min. (Throttle valve opening is kept constant in this step.)
6) Stop vehicle and run engine at idle speed for 1 min.
7) Check DTC and pending DTC.

DTC Troubleshooting

1.
Was "Engine System Check" performed?
YES
Go to Step 2.
NO
Go to Engine System Check Engine System Check.

2. Check HO2S-2 heater power circuit.

Disconnect connector from HO2S-2 sensor with ignition switch turned OFF.
Check proper connection to HO2S-2 sensor at "BLK/WHT" and "PNK/BLU".
If wire and connection are OK, measure voltage between "BLK/WHT" wire terminal and engine ground with ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage over 10 V?
YES
Go to Step 3.
NO
"BLK/WHT" wire open circuit or shorted to ground circuit.

3. Check HO2S-2 heater power circuit.

Disconnect connector from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
Measure resistance between "BLK/WHT" wire terminal and "C46-7" terminal wire.

Is resistance below 5 ohms?
YES
Go to Step 4.
NO
"BLK/WHT" wire high resistance circuit.

4. Check HO2S-2 heater drive circuit.

Measure resistance between "PNK/BLU" wire terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance infinity?
YES
Go to Step 5.
NO
"PNK/BLU" wire shorted to ground circuit.

5. Check HO2S-2 heater drive circuit.

Turn ON ignition switch.
Measure voltage between "PNK/BLU" wire terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 0 V?
YES
Go to Step 6.
NO
"PNK/BLU" wire shorted to power circuit.

6. Check HO2S-2 heater drive circuit.

Connect connector to HO2S-2 with ignition switch turned OFF.
Turn ON ignition switch.
Measure voltage between "C01-4" terminal wire and vehicle body ground with disconnect connector from ECM.

Is voltage over 10 V?
YES
Go to Step 7.
NO
"PNK/BLU" wire open circuit.

7. Check heater of sensor-2.

Disconnect HO2S-2 coupler with ignition switch turned OFF.
If OK, then check heater resistance.

Is it 5 - 7 ohms at 25 °C, 77 °F?
YES
Go to Step 8.
NO
Replace HO2S-2.

8. Check HO2S-2 heater power circuit.

Disconnect connector from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
Measure resistance between "C45-6" terminal wire and "C46-7" terminal wire.

Is resistance below 15 ohms?
YES
HO2S-2 heater circuit are OK.
Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
NO
"PNK/BLU" wire high resistance circuit.
