Repair Procedure
1. Record the radio presets. Place the vehicle securely on a hoist. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the vehicle and remove the right engine under cover. Lower the vehicle enough to work in the engine compartment. Position a floor jack under the oil pan. Place a piece of wood, such as a 4 inch piece of a 2x4, between the pan and the jack pad. Raise the jack just enough to relieve the weight of the engine from the engine mount.
2. Pull the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor out of the air cleaner grommet with plug connected. Loosen indicated clamp and remove two indicated bolts. Pull the air cleaner assembly out of the engine compartment.
3. Remove the engine mount bracket and engine mount as an assembly.
4. Pry the P/S Pump Pulley outward with a small pry bar or flat screw driver at position "B" to remove any thrust play. While holding pressure on the pulley measure the clearance between the timing cover and the serpentine belt at point "A" using a feeler gauge. If the distance measured is between 2.0 mm and 3.3 mm continue to the next step. If the distance measured is less than 2.0 mm or greater than 3.3 do not continue. This procedure has already been done or there is another problem that must be diagnosed. DO NOT bend the pulley, only slight pressure is required.
5. Remove the Serpentine Belt by turning the tensioner in the indicated direction.
6. Remove the two front P/S pump bolts.
7. Remove the two bolts from the rear area of the P/S pump. Move the P/S pump aside to allow access to the four P/S Bracket mounting bolts shown in step 9.
8. Remove upper Generator mounting bolt. Raise the vehicle and remove the Generator Cover (not shown). Remove the lower Generator bolt and carefully move the Generator to allow access to the P/S Bracket mounting bolts in step 9.
9. Lower the vehicle. Remove the engine hook and mount it to the new P/S Bracket. Remove the four P/S Bracket mounting bolts and swap the old P/S Bracket for the new one. Thread the four bolts in finger tight. Apply force against the P/S Bracket towards the front of the engine and tighten bottom bolt first then the remaining three upper bolts. Torque the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).
NOTE:
Be sure the bracket is pulled forward an equal amount at the top and bottom.
10. Raise the vehicle and reinstall the Generator, the upper and the lower Generator mounting bolts. Torque the upper bolt to 23 Nm (16.5 lb-ft) and the lower bolt to 50 Nm (36 lb-ft). Reinstall the Generator Cover (not shown). Torque the Cover bolts to 8 Nm (70 lb-in)
11. Lower the vehicle and reinstall the P/S pump and two rear P/S mounting bolts finger tight.
12. Now thread in the two front P/S mounting bolts. Torque all four P/S mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
13. Install the new Serpentine belt. Use the figure in step 5 as a belt routing reference. Be sure to clean the P/S Pump Pulley grooves with a wire brush and a suitable degreaser.
14. Be sure the IAT sensor is located away from any rotating parts of the engine. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine briefly to allow the belt to seat in place then stop the engine.
15. Now with engine stopped, remeasure the clearance between the timing chain cover and the serpentine belt at point 'A" indicated in the figure at step 4. The clearance should now be between 3.3 mm and 4.0 mm.
16. Reinstall the engine mount assembly. Torque the mounting bolts to 50 Nm (40 lb-ft)
17. Reinstall the air cleaner assembly. Insert the IAT sensor back into its indicated mounting grommet.
18. Raise vehicle and reinstall the right engine under cover. Lower the vehicle and reprogram the radio presets.
