Suzuki/Forenza 2004

Suzuki/Verona 2004

MANUFACTURER: American Suzuki Motor Corp.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V022000 RECALL DATE: Jan 28, 2005

COMPONENT: Exterior Lighting: Brake Lights: Switch

POTENTIAL NUMBER OF UNITS AFFECTED: 37796

SUMMARY:
On certain passenger vehicles, the stop lamp switch may become misadjusted if an upward/rearward force is applied to the brake pedal. The electrical contacts in a misadjusted stop lamp switch may not open when the brake pedal is at its natural rest position, causing the stop lamps to remain illuminated continuously without service brake pedal application, with the ignition on or off.

CONSEQUENCE:
This condition will also cause cruise control and traction control system (if equipped) to be disabled. If the ignition switch is turned off when this condition exists, the battery will become discharged within about three hours.

REMEDY:
Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch with an improved switch. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule. Owners should contact Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934.

NOTES:
Suzuki recall No. KF. Customers can also contact The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
