Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Oil Pan/Oil Pump Removal1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the engine under cover.
3. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.
4. Remove the oil pan flange-to-transaxle bolts.
5. Remove the front engine mount bracket-to-damper bush bolt.
6. Remove the center front suspension member bolts.
7. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts and the oil pan.
8. Remove the oil pump sprocket cover bolts and the oil pump sprocket cover.
9. Remove the oil pump sprocket retaining nut and the oil pump sprocket.
10. Remove the oil suction pipe bracket bolt.
11. Remove the four (4) oil pump retaining bolts and the oil pump.
12. Remove the oil ring from the oil pump.
13. Remove the two (2) oil suction pipe-to-oil pump retaining bolts.
14. Remove the oil suction pipe gasket.
Oil Pan/Oil Pump Installation
1. Installation should follow the removal procedure in the reverse order.
2. Discard used oil pump oil ring and install new one.
3. Tighten the oil suction pipe-to-oil pump retaining bolts, oil suction pipe bracket bolt, and the oil pump retaining bolt.
Tighten the oil suction pipe-to-oil pump retaining bolts to 8 - 12 Nm (106 - 124 inch lbs.).
Tighten the oil suction pipe bracket bolt to 8 - 12 Nm (106 - 124 inch lbs.).
Tighten the oil pump retaining bolts to 18 - 22 Nm (13 - 16 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the oil pump sprocket.
NOTE: Make sure that the dotted surface on the sprocket faces toward the oil pump.
Tighten the oil pump sprocket retaining nut to 18 - 22 Nm (13 - 16 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the oil pump sprocket cover.
Tighten the oil pump sprocket cover retaining bolts to 5 - 7 Nm (44 - 62 inch lbs.).
6. After cleaning the remaining liquid gasket and oil, apply new liquid gasket (Loctite (R) 5900 M8585) on the oil pan.
7. After cleaning the remaining liquid gasket and oil on the bed plate flange, install the oil pan.
Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts to 8 - 12 Nm (71 - 106 inch lbs.).
8. Tighten the center front suspension member bolts.
Tighten the center front suspension member bolts to 80 - 100 Nm (59 - 74 ft. lbs.).
9. Tighten the front engine mount bracket-to-damper bush bolt. Tighten the front engine mount bracket-to-damper bush bolt to 70 - 90 Nm (52 - 66 ft. lbs.).
10. Tighten the oil pan flange-to-transaxle bolt.
Tighten the oil pan flange-to-transaxle bolt to 27 - 35 Nm (20 - 26 ft. lbs.).
11. Discard used oil pan drain plug washer and replace it with a new one.
12. Install the oil pan drain plug.
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 35 - 45 Nm (26 - 33 ft. lbs.).
13. Refill the engine with engine oil.
14. Install the engine under cover.
Tighten the engine under cover retaining bolts to 17 - 27 Nm (13 - 20 ft. lbs.).
