Water Pump: Service and Repair
Water Pump Removal1. Drain the engine cooling system to a level below the thermostat housing.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
3. Loosen the hose clamp on the coolant hose at the thermostat housing and the coolant pump.
4. Disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing and the coolant pump.
5. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
6. Remove the alternator.
7. Remove the compressor.
8. Remove the bracket bolts.
9. Remove the power steering pump lower bracket bolt.
10. Remove the auto tensioner bolt.
11. Remove the auto tensioner.
12. Remove the coolant pump mounting bolts.
13. Remove the coolant pump.
14. Remove the coolant pump gasket.
15. Inspect the water pump body for cracks and leaks.
16. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and the engine block.
Water Pump Installation
1. Install a new gasket to the coolant pump.
2. Secure the coolant pump to the engine block with the mounting bolts.
Tighten the coolant pump mounting bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
3. Install a auto tensioner with the mounting bolt.
Tighten the auto tensioner bolt to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the bracket.
5. Install the bracket bolts.
Tighten the bracket bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the power steering pump.
7. Install the power steering pump bolts.
Tighten the power steering pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the alternator.
9. Install the compressor.
10. Install the serpentine accessory drive bolt.
11. Refill the engine cooling system.
