Recall - ECM Replacement for Emissions Concerns

COLD ENGINE

ATC(AUTOMATIC TRACTION CONTROL) CHANGED TO TCS(TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM) IN THE PART NAME FOR CLARIFICATION.

CONDITION:
Some early-production Veronas may have one, or both of the following conditions:

(1) The ECM software may cause the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to fail to illuminate during certain types of malfunctions. Suzuki is conducting an emissions recall (KC) to correct this condition in vehicles sold or registered in California, New York, Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont;

(2) Some owners have reported that the engine runs rough immediately after starting a cold engine.

CAUSE:
ECM software logic.

CORRECTION:

(1) Replace the ECM in all vehicles subject to the KC Recall Campaign. Refer to Campaign Bulletin # SC-24 for details.

(2) To ensure customer satisfaction, if any owners of affected vehicles complain about driveability after starting a cold engine, replace the ECM.

PARTS INFORMATION

Procedure:

1. Open the hood and check for the KC sticker on the core support. If present do not perform the repair, it has already been done. If not present, continue to next step.

2. Write down all radio presets.





3. Disconnect negative battery cable. Loosen nut to remove battery hold down "J" bolt nearest the ECM.





4. Disconnect the ECM connector by pulling out the clip while pulling up on the connector. Note: Using a side to side motion may be necessary to loosen connector.





5. Loosen the ECM bracket retaining nuts one turn and slide the ECM straight up.





6. Remove nuts and retainer from old ECM and install them on the new ECM.

Reinstall ECM in vehicle mounting bracket. Nut torque 10-14 N.m (89-124 lb.-in).





7. Reconnect ECM connectors by pushing down while pushing the clips in until they are fully engaged.

8. Reinstall battery hold down and reconnect the battery negative cable.





9. Enter your dealer number on the "KC" sticker and affix it to the radiator core support as shown.

NOTE:
The "KC" sticker must be affixed on all vehicles that have a new ECM installed.

10. Close the hood start the engine. Ensure the parking brake is set and allow the engine to idle until it reaches full operating temperature. Once the engine has reached full operating temperature apply the brake, shift to drive and allow engine to idle in drive for one minute.

11. Input radio security code and reprogram radio presets.
