SUBJECT:
WIRE HARNESS INSULATION DAMAGE BEHIND THE LEFT FRONT FENDER LINER
MODEL(S):
VERONA
YEAR:
2004-2005
CONDITION:
Certain electrical circuits may not operate.
CAUSE:
Some of the wire insulation may have been damaged during assembly at the factory. This allows moisture to penetrate into the wires. The moisture can corrode the wires inside the insulation which could cause a short or open in various electrical circuits.
CORRECTION:
First check the list of affected circuits shown. If the affected circuit is on the list remove left inner fender liner to expose affected wiring harness. Repair affected wires using procedure below.
WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
Repair Procedure:
1. Record Radio Presets. Disconnect the battery negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle to remove the left front wheel assembly and the left inner fender lining.
2. With a closer inspection of the wiring harness you should be able to see any damaged wires. Separate any damaged wires to make repairs.
3. Cutout the bad section of wire. Slip the correct sized heat shrink tubing down the wire far enough to keep it from shrinking during soldering. Place the stripped wires together as shown.
4. Solder the twisted wire. Do not use to much solder only a small amount is required. When the joint is cool enough slide the shrink tubing over the joint. Use a low intensity heat source such as a hot air gun, infrared heat source, or soft (yellow) flame. Keep the heat source at least one inch away. Keep the heat source moving. Do not concentrate the heat in one place.
5. Once all affected wires are repaired wrap the bundle of wires together with one or two layers of electrical tape. Reinstall the inner fender liner and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Reprogram the radio presets.
