CONDITION: Uneven rear tire tread wear (inside tread worn more then the outside tread).
CAUSE: Incorrect rear toe alignment specification on 2WD and AWD models. Also, the viscous coupling could contribute to this rear tire wear on vehicles with the affected VINs.
CORRECTION: Determine that the tires have been maintained properly using the following criteria:
- Inspect the rear tires for unusual wear compared to the front tires.
- Confirm the scheduled tire rotations have been completed.
- Confirm tire pressures are within specification.
If it is determined that the tires have been maintained properly, check and if necessary adjust the rear toe alignment on 2WD models according to the specifications.
For affected AWD models (see Parts Information), replace the viscous coupling with the specified part number and adjust the rear toe according to the new specifications.
Use the appropriate service manual and diagram to remove and install the propeller shaft and viscous coupling.
