Control Rod Removal and Installation
Removal
1) Hoist vehicle and remove rear wheels.
2) Remove stabilizer bar.
3) To facilitate toe adjustment after reinstallation, put match marks (4) on washer (3) and on suspension frame (2).
4) Remove suspension frame cap (2).
5) Remove control rod No.2 (4) and No.1 (3) from suspension frame (1) and knuckle (5).
Installation
1) Install control rod No. 1 (1).
a) Install control rod No.1 (1), setting it so that its welded nut (8) comes toward the rear.
b) Insert inner bolt (4) and outer bolt (3) from the vehicle front and tighten them temporarily by hand.
2) Install control rod No.2 (2).
a) Install control rod No.2 (2), setting it so that its welded nut (8) comes toward the front.
b) Insert control rod No.2 bolt (9) from the vehicle front and outer bolt (3) from the rear.
c) Install washer (6) with its graduated part facing down.
d) With marks (7) on washer (6) and frame marked before removal aligned to each other, tighten bolts (3) and nut (5) temporarily by hand.
3) Install stabilizer bar and tighten bolts (1) and nuts (2) by hand.
4) Install wheels and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque.
5) Lower hoist and bounce vehicle up and down to stabilize suspension.
6) Tighten control rod bolts and nuts to specified torque with vehicle weight on suspension.
NOTE:
^ It is the most desirable to have vehicle off hoist and in non-loaded condition when tightening them.
^ Tighten control rod No.2 inner nut with match marks (1) aligned.
Tightening torque
Control rod No.1 inner nut and outer bolts (c): 95 Nm (9.5 kgf-cm, 68.5 ft. lbs.)
Control rod No.2 inner nut (d): 90 Nm (9.0 kgf-cm, 65.0 ft. lbs.)
7) Tighten stabilizer bracket bolts (1), link nuts and joint nuts (2) to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Stabilizer bar mounting bracket bolts (a): 23 Nm (2.3 kgf-cm, 17.0 ft. lbs.)
Stabilizer link nuts and joint nuts (b): 50 Nm (5.0 kgf-cm, 36.5 ft. lbs.)
8) Check rear toe and adjust it as necessary. For check and adjustment procedures, refer to Rear Wheel Alignment Inspection and Adjustment.
9) Install suspension frame cap.
